Out of the Caves
“Beware of Thygerod,” Oberon warns them. “He has the fairies locked in a cave in one of seven mountains and will be happy to capture you, especially Tut. You have some fairy powers, but are no match for the evil one. Only a human can perform some of the necessary tasks, which is why Elizabeth is needed,
In each of the first six mountains (Seven Sisters), creatures from the world’s myths challenge them but Tut and Elizabeth liberate the fairies. In the seventh mountain, they meet their enemy and are captured. Elizabeth escapes from dungeon because of her humanness.
The fairies are all liberated; Elizabeth made an honorary fairy and sent home and goes back to school but doesn’t see Tut again.
Elizabeth is on a solo camping trip readying for college when she recognizes the sound of fairy music. She finds a band of the little people forcing a young man to dance until he is exhausted (from Giselle). They know who she is and release the man, Zachary, to her. Tut shows up and agrees with Elizabeth to help the man get back a locket and map of his family’s mine showing an entrance to Thygerod’s realm which his grandfather found and in which he disappeared.
Their exploits take them to Mesa Verde, Carlsberg Caverns and the bottom of the Grand Canyon fighting the henchmen of their old enemy. A pair of twin gnomes from the Grand Canyon aid in the rescue of Zach who is being readied for subjection to Thygerod’s power. One of the twins dies in the attempt. Eventually, the other twin manages to destroy the underground kingdom their enemy at the same time as she is destroyed. Zach is sent home with all memory removed of the adventure. The section ends with Elizabeth’s graduation from college and meeting Zach.
The final section is the story of Elizabeth and Zach’s daughter, Molly. Aided by two young fairies, Molly is forced underground to face the old enemy, Thygerod. Molly exhibits the same spirit as her mother and after a series of frightening adventures, faces Thygerod but is unable to defeat him. At the end, a white light shines on her to protect her from Thygerod’s power. The light is the same power that created the fairies and it sends Molly and the two fairy friends to safety. a tremendous explosion ensues and Thygerod is finally destroyed – they think. Molly goes home to tell her parents of her exploits.
